Mark Stapp currently serves as the Mayor of Santa Rosa and is the elected representative for Santa Rosa’s 2nd City Council District. In addition to his service on City Council, Mark has spent more than a decade as a business and philanthropic leader at Sonoma State University, where he serves as SSU’s Senior Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
Since joining the City Council in December 2022, Mark was appointed Vice Mayor from December 2023 through December 2024, and was subsequently selected by his Council colleagues to serve as the Mayor of Santa Rosa from December 2024 through December 2026.

In his personal life, Mark is an avid basketball player and hiker, and has volunteered time with local groups focused on homeless youth, public safety, agriculture, and leadership development.
Mark earned a B.A. with Honors from Williams College in Massachusetts and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. Mark’s wife, Viviann, is the Chief Legal & Administrative Officer at Jackson Family Wines. They met in Chicago, lived in San Francisco for a decade, and have been proud to call Santa Rosa home for the last 15 years. They live in Bennett Valley with their rescue dog, Jia, who came from Santa Rosa's sister city in Jeju, South Korea.
